2022 is a special year in the life of Hosensack Church, the 125th anniversary of our founding. In 1897 a group of like-minded Christians determined that a new congregation was needed in Powder Valley. They began meeting in the barn of a local farmer, but eventually decided that a new building could and should be built. Plans were drawn up for the church on land donated by a supporter of the new work.

In addition to a church building, a cemetery was also envisioned. In fact, the burial of an early church member’s grandson took place even before ground was broken for the building. The lovely church we now worship in was completed in 1898.

Our 125th anniversary is a time to celebrate the past, to remember with great gratitude the vision and fortitude of those founding members who sacrificed much to erect this house of worship. It is a recognition of all who, down through the years, have served this congregation to maintain its witness to the community. However, it is also a time to look forward to what God might have in store for the next decades and centuries. In these troubled times, a vibrant Christian witness is needed as never before. We look forward in anticipation to what God, who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly beyond what we can ask or imagine, can and will do with this small church on the hill.

A number of events have been planned for the 125th Anniversary throughout the year. We will enjoy a visit from our outgoing Bishop in the spring and a visit with our incoming Bishop in the fall. A special concert is being planned and the grand finale Anniversary Sunday on October 16, 2022 during which a special banquet will be held to remember God’s goodness. We would love to have everyone with an interest join us for any or all of our special anniversary activities. Please contact us for details.
